Protecting your family: traveling with MedjetHorizon

June 18, 2019 By Erin

(This post is sponsered by Medjet but the thoughts and opinions are my own)

Our family loves to travel the world. We love seeking out new adventures and sharing grand experiences together.  From the first trip I took with Ian, he had me zip-lining across volcanos and biking through jungles filled with poisonous snakes.  We’ve explored back roads in Cuba, islands in the Caribbean, crossed glaciers in Iceland and gone on Safaris in Africa.

Last year, when we planned our first big family adventure to Thailand, I realized that these big adventures could at some point have some big consequences. Children easily get hurt; can break a bone, hit their head, or get serious infections. There have been many nights  that I’ve had to take children to the emergency room here in Los Angeles, I couldn’t imagine having to do that in a foreign country, especially one where the doctors didn’t speak English as a first language.  That’s when I started looking into travel insurance and quickly realized that in a serious medical emergency, my children would not be able to be flown home to ourown hospital.  And insurance definitely didn’t cover any serious safety issues that could happen in a foreign country.

While researching all this, I came acrossthe MedjetHorizon membership program and was blown away.

Medjet is an emergency medical transport and travel security company:  you pay one (very affordable) flat fee per year and if anything happens to your family, anytime you’re 150 miles from home, you call them.  If someone’s hospitalized, they get them to your hospital at home.  If there’s a security issue, there’s a 24/7 crisis response line to call, and I mean access to security experts and in-country response teams for super scary things like:

  • Muggings/Assault/Violent Crime
  • Disappearance/Kidnap for Ransom
  • Terrorism / Political Threat
  • Natural Disaster
  • Much, much More

I had no idea programs like this even existed … much less for about $575 a year for ALL of us.

Ian is also heading out this summer for an all guys motorcycle trip to Alaska, so I recently added Medjet’s Motorcycle Protection as well.  His body’s already protected with the MedjetHorizon we have, but for $35 extra, his bike now gets to come home too! The added coverage provides for up to $3,500 USD for the return his bike, from anywhere in the US, Canada or Mexico, to the shop or dealership of our choice (coordinated by Medjet).

I just can’t imagine anyone in my family traveling now without MedjetHorizon. I feel so secure knowing when Ian is away filming and in different countries I can have him home in an instant during an emergency.  My parents even have it now.  If you are an adventure family and love to travel, to me this is a must have!  We know things can happen anywhere, but the security of being able to be brought back to the comfort of our own hometown, or having someone extremely knowledgeable to call for help during a crisis, allows me to relax a little more and enjoy all the crazy adventures my husband signs us up for!
